Kitten abandoned at landfill site gets a happy home with driver

A small kitten is recovering after her ordeal after being abandoned in a cardboard box at a landfill site.
The kitten, thought to be around six weeks old, was found in the site in North Wales on 24 July and was cold, hungry and suffering from an eye infection. She was discovered by a lorry driver who kindly took her into his vehicle cab, where she refused to leave his shoulder.
The lorry driver contacted the Atherton and Wigan Branch of Cats Protection for advice, and the kitten is now in the care of one of the charity’s volunteer fosterers until she is old enough to be homed by the lorry driver who rescued her. Although the Atherton and Wigan Branch have dealt with numerous cases of abandoned kittens, this is the first time they have cared for a kitten found at a landfill site.
Helen Horton, a volunteer at the branch, said: “We are so grateful to the lorry driver for rescuing this poor abandoned kitten. We dread to think what the outcome would have been if he had not found her when he did. As soon as she is old enough, the kitten will be homed by the driver, who has called her Gracie.”
