FIV + Cats
FIV+ cats are just like the other cats here in the centre except somewhere along the way they have contracted the Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. This may have happened due to a cat bite from another infected cat or from being born to an infected mother.
The virus may in months or years cause the cat to have a weakened immune system and hence become more susceptible to disease and illness. It is because of this that we home these cats to indoor homes with no other non FIV cats where they can be protected from disease and stop the spread to other cats.
To keep good care of an FIV cat it is essential they have regular vaccinations, flea and worm treatments and are fed a good diet.
Indoor cats are safe from road traffic accidents and other outdoor dangers but will require lots of interaction and stimulation to ensure they’re hunting behaviours are met.
Indoor cats can make extremely rewarding pets and giving a home to an FIV positive cat may give you both many years of happiness together.
