Help champion black cats in Northern Ireland and improve their luck

Cats Protection’s Belfast Adoption Centre is celebrating National Black Cat Day on Friday 27 October to encourage people to find a place in their hearts and homes for an unwanted black or black-and-white moggy.

The charity is asking people to use the day to champion the cause of the forgotten black cat.

Nationally, Cats Protection’s 250 volunteer-run branches and 34 centres are currently looking after approximately 5,000 cats. Around half of these are black or black and white and each of these cats wait around a week longer than other moggies to be rehomed.

“It is not uncommon for many monochrome moggies to wait many weeks or months to be adopted which is why we are holding our Black Cat Day on our social media sites on Friday 27 October.” said Belfast Adoption Centre Manager Bel Livingstone “We want to change people’s perceptions and help as many cats as possible into new homes.”

To get involved with the many other activities and celebrations of black and black-and-white cats, Cats Protection is asking cat lovers to visit the Belfast Adoption Centre’s social media sites at www.facebook.com/cpbelfast or www.twitter.com/cpbelfast
