Our volunteers host a number of fundraising events throughout the year to raise vital funds that enable us to care for cats in Cherwell. We’ve included some of the ways our supporters raised money for us in 2017 and 2018 below, but if you’d like to undertake your own challenge or fundraising event in aide of Cherwell Cat Protection we’d love to hear from you. Crowdfunding platforms such as Go Fund Me and Just Giving are an ideal mechanism to raise funds for UK charities, and we’re working on setting up a Paypal Giving Fund account so that supporters can donate via Paypal without having to pay transaction fees.
Our supporters have raised £2,078.85 so far - for free - simply by joining Easy Fundraising and choosing Cherwell Cats Protection as their nominated good cause. Over three and a half thousand retailers have joined the scheme and they’ll donate to us each time you shop with them via the Easy Fundraising online portal.

Become a member of Cherwell Cats Protection and you’ll receive quarterly updates about our successes, hear about some of the cats and kittens that pass through our care and find out a little about our volunteers, who they are and what they do for us.
Our supporters go to great lengths to help cats in the Cherwell area, and in 2017 that meant one local resident running a 5K in Kirtlington and two Bicester vets running the Oxford Half Marathon, raising £800.12 and £1,375.75 respectively.
Our local village bazaars are hosted throughout the year by Cherwell CP members who enjoy the challenge of sourcing and selling items our grandparents would have called bric a brac, as well as selling quality hand made items and the obligatory tea and biscuits. Bazaars are regularly accompanied by a tombola and a raffle, and we also have a feline food bank on site to accept donations of cat and kitten food. In December 2018, volunteers raised a further £934.11 by hosting a chocolate tombola competition at the annual Christmas lights turn-on in Bicester.
Loosely halfway to an Australian-styled barbecue, the Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings (now Homebase) in Bicester was a regular fundraising event for Cherwell CP in 2018, with the sale of sausages, cakes and biscuits raising £513 over the May bank holiday alone. Homebase no longer host the Sausage Sizzle so if you enjoyed one of Claire’s fondant cat cakes and you’d like to try more, get in touch with us on Facebook to stay up-to-date and find out where we’ll be selling them in 2019.
Continuing the sausage sizzling theme, Portway Cattery in Ardley will be hosting our first Pawsome Afternoon Tea in March 2019 - complete with barbeque! Supporters can take in some hot food and indulge in a slab of cake, and join us to chat about the more important things in life - cats and kittens! The same team organised an evening of wine tasting and a quiz at Somerton village hall with Oxfordshire wine educator Lee Isaacs, raising £1,875.50 on the night. Following on from these success stories, our social media volunteer Claire (of fondant cat cake fame) organised an 80s pub quiz and raffle at The Saxon public house on Sheep Street in Bicester, raising over £400.
