Welcome to Cats Protection Forest of Dean Branch
We’re here to support cats and kittens in the Forest of Dean, covering postcodes: GL14, GL15, GL16, GL17, HR9 and NP16.
Run by a small team of dedicated, cat-loving volunteers, we're passionate about improving the lives of cats and kittens in the Forest of Dean, working to find loving new homes for local cats in our care, offering support with neutering, and helping with lost and found cats, as well as general education and awareness within the Forest of Dean area. You can find out more about the work of Cats Protection here.
With Easter approaching, it is a good time to remind everyone how dangerous lilies are to cats.
Cats can be killed by lilies and other plants found in shop-bought bouquets. All parts of the plant are potentially poisonous – the leaves, pollen and flower. Cats can be affected after eating parts of the plant or simply by brushing past the flower and then grooming the pollen from their fur.
Signs of poisoning include continued vomiting, blindness, renal failure and coma so if a cat exhibits any of these symptoms it is vital to get it to a vet as soon as possible as it will need urgent treatment.
There are just 75 days until all pet cats in England must be microchipped by law. The new law comes into force on 10 June 2024 and owners will have 21 days after this date to get their cat chipped or risk being fined.
Microchipping is a safe and effective procedure which will significantly increase the chance of reuniting your cat with you if they go missing.
