Gateshead Branch seeks cat-loving volunteers
31 August 2021
Cats Protection’s Gateshead and Newcastle Branch is on the prowl for new volunteers to help care for cats and kittens needing new homes.
Run entirely by volunteers, we’re looking for people who can join us in vital roles including Cat Welfare, Adoption and Fundraising Team Leaders.
Founded in December 2001, it’s the purrfect time to join the branch as we get set to celebrate 20 years of helping local cats in need.
And it's thanks to the kindness and commitment of our volunteers that cats like Jude are able to be given the second chance in life that they deserve.
One-year-old Jude came into our care in December 2020 and following veterinary tests, was confirmed as FIV+ as well as suffering with cat flu and a nasty eye ulcer.
After a few weeks of TLC and treatment from one of our fosterers, Jude was given the go ahead for rehoming and was soon matched with his forever family.
His owner, Sally Hoban said: “Jude’s adoption went so smoothly, even with the impact of the pandemic. Everyone at the branch was really helpful and able to answer any questions I had, even once Jude was living with me.
“Jude’s needs were always put first and I could see how well cared for he had been when living at the foster home. He received excellent treatment, and apart from now having to live indoors you wouldn’t know he has these health conditions,” she added.
“Jude’s an absolute joy and such a character – he’s cheeky, inquisitive, cuddly, and always hungry. I’m so glad I was able to adopt Jude, and will always be grateful to Cats Protection that we found each other!”
Becoming a branch volunteer is an incredibly rewarding experience, as well as being a great opportunity to learn new skills and connect with like-minded cat lovers.
