Adopt a cat


HANDS FREE HOMING


We are taking some extra precautions at this time to try and ensure that we keep our visitors and Centre safe so that we can continue to care for cats. We are currently closed for public viewings, but we have adapted our adoption process to remove close contact between our staff, volunteers and customers.

We started a new hands free homing process in June 2020 and have put in extensive procedures to make sure that our homing process is in line with current government guidance, without putting adoptees or our employees at risk. While we can’t guarantee that you’ll be able to adopt a cat straight away due the extremely high level of enquiries we have been receiving for each cat, at least you’ll be able to begin the adoption process with us.

HERE IS OUR GUIDE TO ADOPTING A CAT USING HANDS FREE HOMING

  • Check you are within a reasonable distance of our centre
    Due to restrictions easing, we can now offer a contactless method of collecting cats from our centre to allow all adopters to collect a cat, so please check you are within a reasonable distance of our centre. 
     
  • Enquire 
    If you’ve found a cat on our website that you’re interested in homing, send an enquiry through using our Contact Form and we will be in touch as soon as we can with a more in depth application form for you to complete and return.  Due to the high volume of enquiries we receive for each cat we kindly ask that you only complete a Contact Form if you meet the criteria for that particular cat i.e have direct back/front door access to a garden away from a main road for an outdoor cat, do not have other pets for cats that cannot live with other pets etc.  If you are in leased/ rented accommodation we also require written proof from your landlord which confirms that pets are allowed at this stage.
Due to the volume of adoption enquiries we can receive, it may take us a number of days to get back to you, but we will reply to everyone. 

If you have applied for a cat then please do keep an eye on your Junk folder of your email, as our email reply may go here.      

  • Reserve
    If you’re found to be a match for your chosen cat, you’ll be contacted by our team via phone or email. 

  • Adopt
    Once you have reserved your cat, you’ll be sent adoption paperwork to sign and we will ask you for proof of address.  We will then make arrangements for a further telephone appointment with our team. In this call, you’ll have a chance to discuss everything you need to know about your cat and general cat care information. We will also let you know what cat care items can be purchased from our centre and collected at the same time as your new family member.  You’ll then pay an adoption fee of £80 for a single cat or £140 for a pair by card payment over the phone once this stage is complete.

  • Bringing your cat home
    Once this is finalised, we’ll arrange an appointment time for you to collect your cat.  Strict health & safety guidelines are in place at all times.

  • Be supported
    You’ll receive 3 follow-up calls within the first month of adoption to check that your new arrival has settled in. You can also find help and advice on the Cats Protection website at www.cats.org.uk/advice

IF WE RECEIVE A HIGH NUMBER OF ENQUIRIES FOR A PARTICULAR CAT WE MAY REMOVE THEM FROM THE WEBSITE IN ORDER FOR US TO GO THROUGH THE ENQUIRIES.
