Adopt a cat

How it works-

We are open 7 days a week from 11am to 3pm. You can come in, meet the cats and with the help of our expert team, find your "purrfect" match!

If you meet a cat that would be perfect for you then one of the team can reserve them for you. There are a few simple and quick checks:

  1. A look online at your postcode to make sure there are no busy roads nearby

  2. Proof of ID & address

  3. If your house is rented then we require written proof that your landlord accepts pets

  4. That’s all (told you it was quick and easy)!

Once you have reserved a furry friend, you can pick up your new family addition as early as the next day! Please note that the maximum length of time we can reserve a cat for is one week. We are dedicated to getting the cats in our care into their “furrever” homes, with the right owners, as quickly as possible & reserving for longer than this could slow the process down.

There is a bit of paperwork to fill out & either at the point of reserve or when you collect your new family member, one of our specialist cat carers will explain how best to help them settle into their new home. Even if you have had pet cats before, a little refresher can be helpful!

When you adopt with cats protection, you can be sure that you are receiving an animal companion that has been provided with the very best care and treatment during their time here. Every cat is treated to our minimum veterinary standards. This means that as well as receiving our daily care and attention (and pampering…) they are:

  1. Vaccinated- why is this important?

  2. Virus tested for FIV and FeLV (if required)

  3. Up to date for flea and worming treatments

  4. Microchipped- why is this important?

  5. Neutered- why is this important?

  6. Insured for 4 weeks through PetPlan

Running an adoption centre is an expensive operation and as a charity we are dependant on your support. Each cat brought to us costs an average of £180 from admission to rehoming and that is before food, toys, bedding etc. are added into the equation. Depending on circumstances, this number can often be significantly more. With this in mind, Cats Protection charges a £60 adoption fee for a single cat and £80 for a pair. This helps us to cover the costs of their care while ensuring we can carry on providing future cats with first class veterinary care.

Cats ready for adoption can be perused below. If you are interested in anyone, follow the links on the page or even better, come in and meet them as we only reserve on a first come first served basis in person at the centre! We try to keep the list as updated as possible but there may be some who haven’t quite made it here. The best bet is to come in and meet the cats, call us on 0141 779 3341 or follow us on facebook for regular updates of new arrivals to the adoption wing!

See you soon!
