HAPPY NEW YEAR and a review of 2021

A review of 2021 and Happy New Year!
It’s been another challenging year and yet whatever the obstacles, our dedicated volunteers have shown their determination to care for cats and do their very best for cat welfare throughout 2021.
Cats were still admitted into care and adoptions were happening with a focus on the now established Hands Free Homing using electronic processes for paperwork. Conscious of safety for all, we’ve retained the pre-adoption ‘virtual home visit’ which is working well. It seemed it was a spring and summer of kittens with single kittens signed into care as well as several very young litters with their Mums and a heavily pregnant cat delivering her kittens in CP care. We end the year resembling a care home with 5 of the 8 foster cats being over 14 years of age! Of course each and every cat coming into care is much loved. A great achievement for Gosport CP to have placed a total of 80 cats and kittens into loving new homes after receiving excellent foster care and successful home visits conducted by our volunteer team.
Always keen to help owned and feral cats, particularly by getting these cats neutered, Gosport CP has issued neutering vouchers to help owners with the cost and despite the considerable pressures on vets, local feral cats have been health checked and neutered under our Trap, Neuter and Return work. Thank you to Alver Vets and Neighbourhood Vets.
Covid has once again disrupted fundraising but undaunted there’ve been some new ventures including a virtual balloon race and Hampurr raffle with the draw made live on Facebook by mascot Charlie - everyone’s favourite cat! We were thrilled to be back with our stalls and lovely to meet people albeit with hand sanitiser ever present! Mollie & David’s driveway sales have raised over £2000 and our Christmas Fayre needs special mention as it was our first major event post lockdown and not only a wonderful atmosphere for everyone – volunteers and visitors, we raised an incredible £1549. We’re also fortunate to have wonderful supporters who help keep the foster cats occupied by way of treats and toys from our Amazon Wish List.
The Gosport CP Facebook and website continued to keep supporters and followers engaged and up to date and excitingly 2021 saw the launch of Instagram too! These media have been key with Lost & Found work and our desire to reunite and help lost and found cats. We appreciate the distress for owners and finders, share the joy when cats return home and the relief when strays are brought into care. As well as advertising each cat reported to us, the L&F team offer support and advice in an empathetic manner.
A little unsettling at times there’ve been some changes within Gosport CP as some volunteers left the charity, some changed roles and we also welcomed new volunteers who’ve gifted their time and energy to the charity. It’s a big Thank You to all our volunteers and their contribution to Gosport CP, all making a positive difference to cats.
We're proud of Gosport CP’s achievements through the efforts of our volunteers and supporters. Thank You one and all, we do appreciate you.
We look forward to 2022 with a sense of celebration as it’s our 40th anniversary year so look out for ways to get involved.
