About the tutor

Helen Brugts is an experienced artist and maker based in Tunbridge Wells. She has a graphic design qualification from Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design and her career started in theatre prop and window display making and dressing.

Helen’s craft company, The Crackled Horse started with a little vintage wooden horse bought in a Swiss brocante in 2001. She gave it a new lease of life with a paint effect, new horse tail and polished wheels and realised that she loved painting on wood.

Furniture, gifts and accessories followed and she began to sell at school fairs and craft events working from her studio, The Loft Room. From craft fairs to prop designs, Helen now enjoys working on a wide range of creative projects.
