Countdown to new centre opening

The cat homes have arrived and we’re still looking for volunteers. Can you help?

We’re very excited to announce that work is coming along in leaps and bounds at our new Mitcham Homing Centre, in South London. The modules that house the cat pens have begun to be installed, with the first two sliding in to place like a breeze. Grand Designs would be jealous.

Each module contains four pens and we’ll have 20 cat pens in total. The pens are the very latest design with all mod cons and plenty of space for our cats, their bed, food bowls, litter tray and an area to hide away when they want some peace and quiet. Running along the front of all the pens is a glass viewing gallery, so the public can see our cats with minimal disturbance.

Over the next eight weeks the rest of the modules will be installed, painted and decorated with our logos. And by July they’ll be ready to welcome our first furry lodgers looking for a new home in South London.

If you'd like to help, we'd love to hear from you

All this is only possible because of the army of volunteers who have offered to help us. We currently have 40 Cat Carers, 10 Admin roles and 8 Fostering volunteers. Which is fantastic news. But it takes around 100 volunteers to run a homing centre this size – taking in cats, cleaning pens, feeding & caring, helping with admin, driving cats to vets and much more besides. If you’d like to help the cats in your local area we still need Cat Fosterers and Transport Volunteers aka 'the cat cabbie'. Find out more http://mitcham.cats.org.uk/mitcham/volunteering
