Latest Simon’s Cat video explores that insatiable feline curiosity

Today sees the launch of the latest Simon’s Cat video, created in partnership with Cats Protection, which examines why cats behave the way they do.

The latest video in the series features Simon’s Cat creator Simon Tofield and Cats Protection’s behaviour expert Nicky Trevorrow observe the behaviour of the cats in videos ‘Let me in! and ‘Let me out!’

The ‘Let me out!’ video is based on Simon’s own cat, Jess, who frequently follows him around at home, as Simon explains: “I think it’s fair to say that if you are a cat owner, you can say goodbye to privacy – because they follow you everywhere.”

Similarly, the ‘Let me in!’ video shows Simon’s Cat resorting to desperate measures to get inside the house. This scene will be familiar to many owners – but why do cats behave this way?

Nicky Trevorrow, Behaviour Manager at Cats Protection explains: “Cats are renowned for having a natural curiosity, so it’s understandable they’ll want to know what’s on the other side of the door.”

When owners respond to the cat by letting them in or out, this reinforces their behaviour and with the cat knowing their plea has been successful, they’ll try it again! It is this playful curiosity that makes cats such favourable pets.
