Maidstone Homing and Information Centre Opening

In spring 2016 Cats Protection is to open a new Homing & Information Centre based at Newnham Court Shopping Village in Maidstone, Kent.

This is our second homing and information centre following the success of our first centre at the Pets at Home store in Newbury, Berkshire and it is hoped the charity will establish many more centres like this across the UK in the near future.

The Maidstone centre will house five cat pens and the aim is to home over 150 cats each year and managed from our nearby Bredhurst Adoption Centre who will run the centre assisted by volunteers from local branches.

The centre will provide an interactive experience for visitors who will only see the cats in the five pens but can also search our Find-a-cat database on screens and tablets for other cats in the local area.

The aim is to find more homes for unwanted and abandoned cats in the Maidstone and surrounding area, raise vital funds and educate a wider audience about responsible cat ownership. The centre is set in its own area thus minimising stress to the cats and will have five large pens which have been custom-built to our welfare standards.

Potential adopters go through the same process as they would if adopting from our Bredhurst Adoption Centre and the welfare of the cats in our care is of the upmost importance. When someone registers an interest in homing a cat, we make sure that the cat is right for that person, their family, home, lifestyle and plans for the future. The cat is reserved and there is a 24-hour period before an appointment for collection is arranged.
