A Tribute to Our Friend and Volunteer - Lee

It is with much sadness that we share the news of the passing of one of our most versatile and vivacious volunteers – Lee Herbert – on the 29 March.

Branch Co-Ordinator, Nicole Evans said: “Lee had been a volunteer with NBCP for probably two decades, and her dear husband Ken before her. We don’t know if she was always first to put her hand up at school in her native Boston Massachusetts, but she was always the first with her hand up for the Branch! She’d help at any event – from welcoming visitors to homing days, womaning stalls at fund-raising fayres, totalling up the scores at our quiz nights, brandishing the collection bucket at supermarkets, home visiting potential adopters – her energy and enthusiasm for all things cat was amazing. Any good ideas the committee had, Lee was on board with ‘I can help with that’ – usually before being asked!

"Her home garage was the storage space for the branch and her home lounge and kitchen was the regular venue of branch social get-togethers, Cat Chats, pre-Covid.  She celebrated her 80th birthday in 2018 by holding and hosting the annual CP summer fayre in her garden. This was covered by the local Press and, as a result, was enjoyed by supporters and visitors from far and wide, and proved a great success.

"Always smiling, always joking, and always willing. We all loved her Boston twang, her great sense of humour and, of course, her love of and support for her fellow volunteers and for CATS.  Lee will be missed by everyone at the branch and never forgotten."
