Children invited to enter cat story-writing competition ...

Managers of the Cats Protection shop on Erdington High Street have teamed up with W H Smith to set up a children’s writing competition with a first prize of a £10 gift voucher.  And all the children have to do is write a story about a cat – any cat – made up or real – and pop it into the CP shop by 3rd September. Just before they return to school.

So the message is ‘get cat creative’. Says assistant manager, Gabriela: “It can be happy, sad, exciting or funny – and we’d love to see your drawings illustrating your story too.”

Sisters Millie and Lexi Farrow plan to get their stories in eary, while CP shop manager Anita displays the creative writing competition poster. 'Stories in please by 3rd September'

Entry is just £1 which will, of course, help buy food and pay vet bills for the needy cats and kittens in the care of the North Birmingham Branch.

Shop Manager Anita confirms all the children need to do once they’ve written their story is ‘pop their full name, age, school and contact details on the back of their entry, and hand it in at the shop’.

Anita adds: “As well as the £10 W H Smith voucher – great for return-to-school stationery - there will be second and third prizes too. And the winning entry – as judged by journalist volunteer Sheila – will be published on the CP website and shared far and wide via Facebook. Who knows, we may discover a brilliant new child author! And we will all enjoy reading the stories knowing we have raised funds for the cats too.”

** The CP shop is at 104b High Street, Erdington. Good quality ladies clothing, shoes and bags are always on the wanted list, so replenishment for the rails is much appreciated.
