Mere Green ladies learn more about cats ...

Mere Green Ladies must have known the cat chatterers were coming, as their welcoming meeting room in Four Oaks Baptist church was decked out in Cats Protection colours when they hosted a CP talk in June.

Education volunteer Sheila Pennell went along to present on the aims and achievements of the charity and was joined by CP supporter Sue Atkins of Banners Gate.

Says Sheila: “I was booked to go in March, but the thick snow at the time meant the group couldn’t meet up. So I was invited again in June, when instead of the snow the tropical heat almost defeated us! But the ladies were all very welcoming. Around half had cats and everyone enjoyed the presentation and were pretty hot on the answers to the cat quiz questions. One member, Mary, told us she had a plaque on her drive saying ‘homeless cats welcome here’ but in meow-speak so the cats would understand. And the result? Stray cats often turned up at her door and she took them in or at least fed them.”

Sue Atkins, who sits as a JP at the city centre law courts and has a young rescue cat herself, enjoyed the evening too saying it was ‘fun and informative’.

Programme Secretary, Ann Palmer, thanked Sheila and Sue, and presented a donation cheque of £40 to help the Branch in its work with neutering and rehoming needy cats and kittens in North Birmingham.
