Saturday : volunteers cat-chat and awards day at Friends Meeting House

Long-standing volunteers with Cats Protection met up on Saturday, 8 December for a get-together and Christmas buffet in Sutton – and to welcome new volunteers who came along to see what they were missing!

Helen Parkes, Midlands Development Officer with Cats Protection, presented volunteers with one, five and ten year ‘service’ awards and said it was a ‘pleasure being involved with such a dedicated team’. The event was held at the Friends Meeting House, Kenelm Road, in Sutton Coldfield where, many years ago, cat homing days took place.

Coordinator Jane Holt confirmed: “We don’t put cats through the stress of taking them to homing days any more. Potential adopters see the cats on our website and, once a volunteer home visit has taken place, only then does a viewing and an adoption happen. So much kinder for the cats.

“The afternoon was very successful – even volunteers who had moved away came along to meet up again for old times sake. And best of all several would-be volunteers called in towards the end and hopefully will be on board in their new volunteering roles early in 2019.”
