DIY Store cat & kittens rescued
An abandoned cat and kittens living in the Peterborough Homebase delivery yard have been rescued by Cats Protection.

Pam McNicol, Branch Coordinator, said ‘Following a call from an employee concerned that the cat and her kittens were in grave danger from the delivery lorries which are in and out of the yard all day, we put a rescue plan into operation.

‘Volunteers delivered a trap and cat crate to Homebase and the staff were able to catch the cat and kittens and keep them safe until we could collect them.  We were pleased to be able to help rescue them from such a dangerous environment, particularly as the kittens were playing amongst the pallets of goods being constantly moved around.

Pam continued ‘Local rescue organisations are all running at full capacity and we were able to find room for the mother cat but not the kittens who have been taken in by Peterborough Cat Rescue.  Mum cat Becky, named after the employee who reported her, is now safely in one of our foster homes until we can find a new home for her.’

This situation is one which is being repeated across the city. Cats Protection has received six calls from the public in the pastweek reporting cats and kittens being found in gardens.

Pam added: “Anyone who finds a stray cat should contact a local rescue organisation straight away. Please don’t wait until they are very pregnant or have kittens as this makes it much more difficult for us to help them.”
