Autumn Fayre 2019
21 November 2019
The annual Cats Protection Autumn Fayre took place at the Tilehurst Methodist Church, Reading, on the 16th November. It’s always the largest Cats Protection event of the year – so it was fantastic to see so many volunteers and customers getting involved in the fundraising spirit.
Large crowds of people queued outside the venue up to 30minutes before the doors were opened; the footfall seemed to be constant, with some people showing up later in the day who were new to the Fayre – but had found out about it via flyers and advertisements.
The venue was bursting with positivity, with fun activities and fundraising efforts taking place towards the end of the day. There was a tombola, a bear which people could guess the name of, and a raffle – from which people were able to win food, gifts and toys for their cat/kitten, or various different things for themselves. The takings from the raffle alone came to an amazing £364.00!
The loveliest part of the event was having four of our very own cats in our care present on the day. People went to meet the little ones, and show them some affection and kindness. Two young & energetic kittens named Hattie & Harry, who happen to be sister and brother, and who are being adopted together; a tiny & adorable long-haired white, fluffy kitten named Malcom; and a 2.5 year old beautiful ginger cat named Sunny. All three of the kittens were soon to be going to their forever homes, while Sunny gained a load of interest on the day – with lots of people adding themselves to a list to be considered for adoptions going forward.

There were many stalls with donated goods for people to browse, including clothing, children’s toys, books, DVD’s, movies, cakes & food, and more. There was also a hot beverage stand – offering warming teas and coffees for those who needed that little extra bit of cosiness in this cold weather!
With Christmas just round the corner, Cats Protection branded festive cards, calendars and diaries were also on offer at this event, which helped to raise a further £412.42. There were also branded freebies at the event – which people loved! Pens, pencils, badges, coasters and informative leaflets on how best to look after your cats… All totally free.
After such a wonderful day, Reading & District is very proud to announce that this was the events best ever result. Together we raised an incredible £4001.48!!! We would like to thank all our fabulous volunteers for their hard work and dedication, alongside all the people who showed up on the day, to support the charity. Every little helps, and cats all around the country are able to live happier, healthier lives because of fundraising events like this. Until next Fayre… Thankyou from all of us at the branch, and from our cats & kittens!
