how to adopt

Our adoption process is very straight forward and we aim to settle our cats into their new homes as quickly as possible.

An up to date list of the cats available for rehoming can be seen on the 'adopt a cat page' page.

Please note; we do not have an adoption centre in Salisbury, and all of our cats are cared for in vounteers' own homes or pens in their gardens. If you would prefer to visit a centre, please call Ferndown Homing Centre on: 0300 0120175 or visit www.ferndown.cats.org.uk

Once you have carefully considered the type of cat you are looking for, or have seen a specific cat on the website, please call the helpline or email us via the website ( please can you make sure that you check your junk / spam emails for our reply as occasionally it can get directed into there)

When you contact us, you will be asked to give your personal details and information about your home environment.

Within the next few days, you will receive a call from our Homing Coordinator who will discuss the suitability of the cats in our care with you.

If you decide to adopt from us, we will arrange a convenient time to carry out a physical or virtual home visit and, in the meantime, you will be able to visit the cat/s you are interested in. Once you have been to see a cat, you will have the option of reserving them until the home visit has been successful.

Please be aware that occasionally, we may have more than one enquiry about the same cat. In this situation, we will make a decision based on the best interest of the cat.

Once you have had a successful home visit and we have helped match you with a suitable cat, you will be able to make arrangements to collect the cat from the fosterer.

Upon collection of the cat, you will be required to pay an Adoption Fee of £90 for each adult cat, £115 for each kitten, which will go a little way towards covering some of our veterinary and welfare costs.

Our minimum veterinary standard ensures your cat or kitten will be:-

Neutered (if old enough). If the kitten is adopted before it is neutered we will supply a voucher to cover the cost.
Health checked
First vaccinated
Micro-chipped
Flea and worm treated
Insured for 4 weeks (with Petplan)

Home to Home Cats

Some of the cats shown on our website are being advertised for rehoming by their owners and although they may be on our waiting list, they are NOT in our care. If you are interested in adopting a Home to Home cat, please let us know so that we can put you in touch with the owners.

DISCLAIMER: The cats featured as Home to Home are being advertised on behalf of their owners. Cats Protection have not seen these cats and cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information provided. Arrangements to adopt a Home to Home cat will be made directly with the owners, but Cats Protection can offer a discounted veterinary health check after adoption if requested.
