Adopt a cat

If you’re thinking about offering a home to a Cats Protection cat or kitten that’s great news! There is a lot to think about, but we are here to make the adoption process as smooth as possible.

  • Enquire. If you have found a cat on our website that you are interested in homing, please send us an enquiry message using the form on this website.
  • Reserve your cat.  One of our volunteers will review the form and, if you are found to be a home match for your chosen cat, we will contact you by phone or email. This will give you the opportunity to ask any questions you have about the cat or kitten and discuss the adoption process.
  • Home visit.  Some home checks are now possible.  Virtual home checks will involve, where possible, a video call (or phone if a video call is not available) to discuss the homing with you.  You may be asked for proof of your address and the consent of your landlord (if you live in a rented property).
  • Bringing your cat home. Once the above process is finalised, we will arrange for a convenient time for you to collect the cat or kitten or for our volunteer to bring your cat or kitten to you.
  • Be supported. You will receive a follow-up call or email in the days following the adoption to check that your new arrival has settled in. You can also find help and advice on the Cats Protection website at www.cats.org.uk/advice

The Adoption fees are £70 for a single adult cat or a kitten over 6 months old.
For a kitten aged up to six months old it is £90.

For this Adoption fee, every cat and kitten in our care will be…

  • Vaccinated, with his or her own vaccination record card
  • Neutered – kittens under 16 weeks will come with a neutering voucher to cover the cost
  • Adult cats are microchipped – kittens under 16 weeks of age will be microchipped when they are neutered
  • Protected from fleas & worms until their top-up date
  • Be vet checked and information given for any medical conditions
  • Covered by 4 weeks' free pet insurance.
  • If you would like to adopt a kitten, please be aware that some of our kittens have to be rehomed in pairs.  This will depend on each litter of kittens and their circumstances.  Young kittens need 3 feeds per day, usually including a lunch time feed.   In the beginning you will need to ensure you are not out for a long period of time without someone who can call in to feed them and give them some attention.

If  you are thinking about adopting a kitten(s), and would like to register your interest, please phone us on  01702 866836 in working hours.

The welfare of the cats and kittens in our care is at the very heart of what we do.   Please contact us if you are interested in adopting a cat from the Branch.
