Four very special kittens graduate

This week is Graduation week for four very special kittens.

At the end of October, four kittens (from a litter of five) were brought into our care having been trapped at a feral colony - estimated at about 5 weeks old. A week later we got the news that the fifth had been trapped, and to everyone's surprise later that day a sixth was also trapped.

And so began weeks of hard work by a team of volunteers and their foster carer. As they had a feral Mum, these kittens were not sociable at all at first, preferring to hide away - hissing and spitting at us if we got too close to them. The normal game we all played when we first arrived was count the kittens - and we were regularly on our hands and knees looking everywhere to try to find where the shyest kittens had hidden themselves away.

However, very slowly - and with the use of countless roast chickens and meat sticks (as well as play), as well as having an amazing foster cat Mum (owned by the fosterer), the kittens have grown to trust humans - although its a struggle to stroke the shyest of them as they are quick to react. As they have grown in our care we have watched their different personalities come out - with the two boys and one girl normally front and centre during play sessions and with the other three girls waiting and watching for their turn. They have become closest to their foster carer, who has had three of them on her lap with the other three sat at her feet.

We would like to thank all the volunteers who have been involved in the socialisation process for these kittens, and especially the fosterer and her cat as without their dedication and hard work these kittens would have had to be returned (neutered) to the feral colony.

This weekend we say goodbye and good luck in their forever homes to Bowie and Patti who are being homed separately, and later in the week to Ozzie and Bonnie who are going to their forever home together.

Janis and Suzi are still available for adoption but still need a little more time before being ready. They will be homed as a pair. If you are interested in these special kittens please keep an eye on the website for further information.
