Lucky Black Cats!

20 January 2013
Lucky Black Cats! Adopt some lucky black cat charm from Cats Protection!

‘Adopt a black cat and good fortune could come your way this year,’ is the message from the Stourbridge, Dudley and Wyre Forest branch of Cats Protection.

Rob Hall, Volunteer Branch Co-ordinator said, “We usually have at least one black cat in our care who needs a loving home so we’re hoping prospective owners would like to adopt their very own lucky charm.”

In our care at the moment is Fred, a gentle and affectionate 6 month old male cat who would love to be rehomed with his black and white sister Felicity. Click on our ‘Adopt a Cat’ tab to see up to date details of all our cats that are waiting for new owners.

Rob added, “New Year provides the perfect opportunity to find your ideal feline companion and because black cats are usually considered lucky, giving one a second chance could be fortunate for you both!”

According to popular legend, black cats can symbolise good luck and fortune. In years gone by, sailors’ wives kept black cats as they believed their presence would protect their husbands from the dangers of the seas. It is also well known that if a black cat enters your home uninvited and settles on your hearth, then any business in the family will prosper.

King Charles I of England is probably the most famous person in history to have owned a black cat. He believed his black feline brought him good luck so he made sure it was guarded every day. In a strange twist of fate, the day after the cat died the King was arrested by Cromwell’s troops.
