Why adopt from Cats Protection?

With many cats needing homes in the UK, our centres and branch capacity is often full. There are countless cats waiting for an owner to give them love, care and attention.

We aim to make sure all cats and kittens in our care are ready for their new homes. When you adopt a cat with Cats Protection, you can be sure they have received:

Kittens or an adult cat?

Kittens arrive at Cats Protection from various places and with varying needs - from those that have been abandoned to those that are born in our care if their mother is a stray. While kittens can be cute to look at, they need additional care and patience from their owners. They are likely to be more energetic than older cats too - something worth thinking about before you consider kittens for adoption.

Here is our guide to adopting a cat from Cats Protection:

  1. Check you are within a reasonable distance of your chosen branch. You can find your nearest branch by typing in your postcode at www.cats.org.uk/find-us

  2. Enquire. Send an enquiry through our helpline on 0345 371 2725 or via email on enquiries@strathspey.cats.org.uk or using our facebook page

  3. Reserve your cat. If you are found to be a good match for your chosen cat, you’ll be contacted via phone or email. You may be asked for proof of your address and the consent of your landlord (if you live in a rented property)

  4. Adopt. Once you have reserved your cat, you’ll be sent paperwork to sign and you’ll make a further telephone appointment with our team. In this call, you’ll have a chance to discuss everything you need to know about your cat. You’ll then pay an adoption fee of £75 for an adult cat and £95 for a kitten. This is usually paid by bank transfer

  5. Bringing your cat home. Once this is finalised, we’ll arrange for you to collect your new companion

  6. Be supported. You’ll receive a follow-up call or email around three, seven and 21 days after the adoption to check that your new arrival is settled in. You can also find help and advice on the Cats Protection website at www.cats.org.uk/advice
