Thinking of adopting?

The Adoption Process:

  1. When you visit our centre in search of a new feline companion, we ask you to fill out a Homing questionnaire that asks where you live, who lives in the house and any other animals, and what temperament of cat you are looking for.
We want to match you, your lifestyle and future plans to the cat/cats as closely as possible. Please appreciate that due to experiences that some cats in our care have suffered, finding them the best home that will meet their specific needs is imperative.

  2. We look at your address online to assess the surrounding areas (roads, garden sizes, urban or rural location, etc.). We can then advise on suitable cat(s) for the environment, e.g. a cat that will stay close to home/remain indoors or likes to roam.

  3. Please bring proof of address before your adoption meeting; a driver's licence or utility bill is fine. Also, if the property is rented, we need to see permission from the landlord/council that pets can be kept at your property.

  4. Now comes the exciting part... meeting the cats! We have a small variety of cats at our centre and access to view more cats in care at other adoption centres and branches. Do look at our Cats Protection websites and click 'Adopt a cat' or use the Find-a-cat matcher to view all the profiles of cats in care local to you.

  5. When you have found your purrfect match, you can reserve them for up to 7 days. This allows you time to buy any items you need and prepare their resources at home. We arrange an adoption meeting with you to complete the adoption paperwork and talk through settling your cat in. This is when the adoption fee is paid and you can take your cat home!

Our Adoption Fee:
We give our cats love and cuddles for free...however, while in our care, veterinary treatment can cost £150 or more per cat.  With this in mind, we ask for an adoption fee of £70 per cat/kitten under the age of 12 and £60 for cats over the age of 12 years, we are confident that you will appreciate the great benefits and value that this fee represents to you, and how it can in turn help Cats Protection to help more cats in need.

Care Standards:
All cats that leave the centre are:

  • Health-checked by our vet
  • Neutered
  • Microchipped
  • Vaccinated
  • Treated for fleas and worms
You will also receive 4 weeks free Petplan insurance!

Before you make your decision to adopt... take time to read through some of our Essential Guides:  Feline Behaviour, Welcome Home and Introducing Cats to Cat/Dogs.  Also, please consider the fact that cats can live well into their twenties!
