Before you adopt

Before starting the adoption process of one of our cats, please take a few mins to consider the following:

  • You could be committing to your new cat for up to 20 years. Can you offer continue stability?
  • Veterinary fees can be expensive. You should expect to visit the vets at least once a year for a health check and vaccination. Other preventive health care measures include de-fleaing (usually a monthly treatment) and de-worming (typically over 3 months); seek advice from your vet on frequency. Pet Insurance will help with major illness and emergency treatment.
  • You will need to make arrangements for you cat when you go on holiday, this may involve boarding cattery fees.
  • Feeding a cat will cost a minumum of £14 a week, plus other expenses of litter, litter trays, toys, bowls, bedding and so on.
  • If you adopt a long hair cat, you will need to set aside time for regular grooming.

Adopt with confidence

Adopting a cat from Cats Protection means...

  •    That your cat has been health checked by a vet
  •     Vaccinated at least once against flu and enteritis
  •     Microchipped
  •     Neutered if over 4 months old
  •     Will have been treated for fleas, roundworm and tapeworm
  •     Will have been cared for to very high standard
  •     We also provide four weeks' free insurance (terms and conditions apply)

The adoption fee is £75 for a cat (over 6 months of age) or £95 for a kitten (under 6 months of age), these prices are current from 1st August 2022.

The Adoption fee is to help cover the basic day-to-day care costs, which includes de-fleaing and worming. We also vaccinate, microchip, blood test (those at risk) and neuter (if old enough) the cats that we take in. It can cost us £180 or more before a cat is ready for re-homing, so if you feel able to make a donation on top of the adoption fee, it would of course be most gratefully recieved. Thank you for deciding to adopt a Cats Protection cat.

  • Reserve your cat of choice.
  • We are currently a hands free rehoming branch, please follow the link below for more information.

WE HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF DISAPPOINTED ADOPTERS LET DOWN RECENTLY AFTER THEIR LANDLORDS/HOUSING ASSOCIATION FAILED TO GET THEIR PERMISSION TO THEM WITHIN THE 4 DAY RESERVE PERIOD AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO ADOPT THEIR CHOSEN CAT. THEREFORE WE STRONGLY URGE YOU TO GET YOUR WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM YOUR LANDLORD OR HOUSING ASSOCIATION AS WE REQUIRE A COPY OF IT BEFORE YOU CHOOSE A CAT.
