“Student Volunteering Week 19th-25th February 2018”

Last week was Student Volunteering Week 19th-25th February 2018

We were extremely lucky to have had four lovely hard-working students last week to help us out at the Adoption Centre.  They have each showed their support and compassion to the running of our busy adoption centre. There are many tasks in different areas such as administration, cleaning, cat socialisation, and the general every day care of our cats. See the pictures below of our Student Volunteers in action carrying out a few of the daily tasks.

Cat Socialisation
Cat Socialisation- this involves playing with the cat, grooming or simply just sitting in he cats pen and talking very quietly to the cat.

Deep Cleaning  Deep Cleaning- this is to give a thorough clean of the cats pen when the cat has gone to it's new home. Then a new cat can go into this pen.

Filling out observation sheet Filling out observation sheets- we have to record everything we can about the cats, such as what they have eaten, drank, toiletting and other behaviours.

Preparing Homing Packs- these packs are the paperwork which goes home with our adopted cats, which has some interesting leaflets inside for the new owner.

Recording Donations

By students picking Cats Protection to carry out their work placement, it helps to get a good insight of what it is like to work with animals and for a charity. This in turn can help prepare them for their future career with working with animals.

Student volunteering not only helps Cats Protection, but also helps improve the wellbeing of the student by learning essential work skills, as well as developing the students’ employability in the future.

We are very lucky here at Cats Protection to have so many students that like to come and work with us. So we would like to say a massive thank you to all our previous and current Student Volunteers, and we hope to see some new Student Volunteers also. If you would like to carry out a work placement with us in the future, then please do not hesitate to contact us.
