Bethan’s London Marathon Fundraiser Raffle
Over the course of the last 6 months, I have been training for the London Marathon to raise money for the Gwent Branch of Cats Protection. I have been fostering for them for close to 2 years and saw how the pandemic of 2020 affected all those who volunteer for the Branch and logistically how things changed. We rely a lot on holding events to help raise money and we were not able to do this due to lockdowns and social distancing so when the opportunity arose to raise money by doing the London Marathon I jumped at the chance. You must pledge to raise a minimum of £2000, and as part of my fundraising in February 2021 I decided to hold a virtual raffle to help reach this goal. We approached the community that Cats Protection has created and several companies and asked if they were able to help donate items that could be used as prizes. This was again difficult as I was not able to physically go and speak to people about what I am doing and why. By the end of February, I had over 70 items donated from a variety of places and was in a good place to start the raffle. It was run over the course of March with the draw happening over the Easter weekend and I raised a grand total of £1129. I want to personally thank every person who donated items, every business that donated, everyone that bought a ticket and the Gwent Branch for supporting and logistically helping make this work. I would like to highlight some of the companies that donated as I would not have been able to raise the amount I did without their generosity and support.
