Adopt a cat

So you’ve been thinking about it and have decided that the time is right to bring a cat or kitten into your family.

It is important to think about costs at an early stage. Actually acquiring the cat or kitten will not necessarily be a major expense and food is still a relatively small item if purchased from dedicated Pet Stores like Pets at Home.
Thought should be given, however, to the cost of veterinary treatment, including the routine inoculations, and also to the cost of boarding your cat at a reputable cattery while you are on holiday if no other satisfactory arrangements can be made for its care.

Once you have thought about all this and decided to go ahead, the first step is to phone us on  01483 721700 and leave a message with your contact telephone number in Mailbox 1. Or send us a message via our Contact Us page. You will be able to discuss the sort of cat or kitten you would like to adopt and will be asked some initial questions such as:
  • Do you live on a safe road?
  • Have you any other pets?
  • Do you have children?
  • If you want a kitten, how much company will it have?
We do have cats that for one reason or another are used to living indoors and we have cats that are used to living with dogs, so do not necessarily assume that you are ‘ruled out’ by the answers you give.

You will then be contacted by our Branch Homing Officer who will make an arrangement for you to come and see the cats and kittens in our care.

Cats Protection asks for an adoption fee when rehoming a cat. If you feel able to make a donation on top of the adoption fee that would, of course, be gratefully received. We know times are hard so thank you for your decision to rehome a CP cat!
