A year of support

24 April 2012
A year of support On Friday 20th April 2012, we held our Annual AGM for members of WCP. We elected new members to the Committee and we also produced our Annual Report for 2011, detailing the income, expenditure and achievements of the Branch.
2011 was a very successful year for our Branch, and this year we wanted to to provide our members with a greater insight and understanding of our work in an easy-to-read format. The Committee are extremely proud of all that our members and volunteers have collectively achieved over the last year – we hope you are too. Click here to download a copy of our annual report, which has been beautifully designed by our volunteer Stef Johnson.

What the report doesn't detail is the individual time and effort that everyone who has been involved with the Branch over the last year or so has given us. Without our members, volunteers and supporters, we would not be able to achieve even a small part of our work, and it is only with your help that we can help the cats and kittens of Wolverhampton, and their owners. The Branch is extremely grateful for everyone's help and support, and we would like to say some heartfelt THANK YOUs to the many volunteers who have helped us.

  • To our dedicated fosterers for the love and attention that they give to the cats in care. Fostering requires commitment 7 days a week, and  many cats come in from difficult circumstances and the patience and time taken with them by the fosterers enables most of them to go to new homes as happy and confident cats. Thank you also to the home visitors who ensure our cats go to lovely caring forever homes
  • To our shop manager, volunteers and committee members who help keep our shop open 6 days a week. There are so many tasks involved in this, from sorting stock to displaying and presenting the goods, from keeping the place clean and tidy to managing and banking the money, and all the time providing a friendly and pleasant place for our customers to visit.
  • To our volunteers who organise and turn out, rain or shine, to do our street collections. It isn’t the most fun job, standing in the cold and rain, and being ignored by 95% of the public, but every time someone comes over and puts some money in the tin, it makes it all worthwhile.
  • To our wonderful helpline volunteers, for giving up their evenings to man the phone lines, offering help and advice to all sorts of callers, which can sometimes be a challenging task. In particular they do a wonderful job coping with the high volume of calls received during our neutering campaigns – and a special mention to the ladies who write all the neutering vouchers – a labour-intensive, manual task that is absolutely vital!
  • To our volunteers who help trap cats in feral colonies, and also take cats to the vets for us and for owners who have no transport.
  • And to our Committee, who are busy all the time, organising quiz nights, craft fairs, maintaining and updating our online presence, trapping, taking cats to vets, following up the calls to the helpline, keeping us up to date with information from NCC, sending out thank you letters, making sure we gain as much publicity as possible so that our supporters know what’s happening and when, publishing our fabulous magazine, The Scratching Post, and managing our budgets, making sure we spend our hard earned income cost effectively!

But most of all, thank you to all our supporters; it is only because of their generosity that we exist. We look forward to their continuing support to enable us to carry on the good work in the years to come.
