Friendship group club together for cats ...

Not one, not two, but three Cats Protection volunteers went along to St James church Hall, Mere Green, to present to a group of around thirty on the work and history of the charity and to listen to the moggy memories of their audience.

Pam Wood and Sheila Pennell had been invited along, and they in turn asked new volunteer Elaine Berry if she’d like to join them. She purred at the offer, and even became ‘quiz-mistress’. She asked the warm-up ‘lets see what you already know about cats’ questions which not only engaged the audience but elicited a good percentage of right answers!

Sue Bevington, of Home Instead Care Services, who booked the talk, reminded the group that Sheila was the ‘first speaker booked for their inaugural meeting two years ago’ – and went on to thank all three volunteers for an enjoyable, enlightening and fun presentation. And she kindly made a donation to help needy cats and kittens in North Birmingham.

All three CP volunteers stayed on for tea, cat-chats and questions – and handed out lots of CP goodies - bookmarks, car stickers and pens - balloons too for those who had children or grand-children.

Pam was particularly pleased when one gentleman said he ‘was now thinking of adopting an older cat’ – so she hopes that will come to feline fruition!

* The talk was held in St James Church Hall, Sutton Coldfield, on 24 January. Any similar friendship or carers group who would welcome a Cats Protection presentation can call the helpline on 0345 260 1503 and an education volunteer will make contact.
