Packed pub raises pounds for puss-cats

Cats Protection's local summer pub quiz was a great success as twelve teams battled it out for the top prize. In the process, they raised an impressive £289 from entrance fees and raffle ticket sales, which will go to help the cats and kittens of North Birmingham.

On 10th August, cat and quiz lovers assembled at the Digby pub in Erdington to pit their wits against CP quizmaster Adam, and it was a very close run thing! The general knowledge geniuses from Catatonic were triumphant yet again with an impressive score of 66/70, but there was a photo finish for second place. Three teams – Catmint, Feline Lucky and 100 Purrcent – all tied on 65 points, splitting the 2nd prize hamper between them.

Bringing up the rear were Trudy’s Troops (pictured top), who nonetheless looked like they’d had a lot of fun and seemed delighted with their wooden spoons.

Not Mushroom in Here
The best team name went to “Not Mushroom in Here!” (bottom picture)  – their name a cheeky reference to the very packed pub. As the Digby were about to embark on a refurbishment, part of the pub was already out of action, leaving quizzers packed in pretty tightly. In fact, the new pub management team had their work cut out, with the kitchen rushed off their feet dealing with an influx of meal orders from CP customers.

Needless to say, CPs quiz organisers are looking forward to returning for the next quiz on Thursday 9th November, by which time the Digby will have had its facelift, and they’ll be ready for quizzers with reinforcements to feed the hungry hordes!

Branch Coordinator Denise Atkins says: "Thanks to the new team Digby for making everyone so welcome, and to the brilliant team of volunteers who pulled the event together.

"We’ll see you next time!"
