Peter Shergold visit delighted volunteers and cats

Branch homing volunteers Elaine and Sheila were delighted to meet CPs ‘Head of Field Operations’ Peter Shergold recently. And Peter was happy to cuddle a few cats and pick-up on how rehoming was going, especially via the ‘CP directs’ scheme.

Direct rehoming has proved successful in finding countless cats new homes without coming into branch or foster care – a ‘home-from-home’ model.

Says Peter:“It was great to visit a local team and see the fantastic work they were doing in helping cats and owners. I met volunteer photographer Richard Brown too, along with Sheila’s aunt Doris – 100 this year - and practically a life-long volunteer and supporter. I soon discovered she knew all about cats!”

Peter is responsible for all the Cats Protection Adoption Centres and Branches so travels the length and breadth of the UK. His aim is to meet as many volunteers as possible to understand their roles and what he can do to help.  Peter worked for St John’s Ambulance during the pandemic after retiring from the British Army in 2019. Originally from Walsall, he and his wife and young family are ‘glad to be rehomed’ in North Birmingham. Rather like the cats!
