Yard sale goes the extra mile ...

What a good day out Sunday was for Cats Protection volunteers, supporters and everyone who visited ‘Jenny’s yard sale’ on Orchard Road. Luckily it wasn’t raining cats and dogs – instead it was a sunny day for helping regular cats and dogs alongside endangered wildlife.

Confirms stalwart volunteer and jam-maker Jenny: “My old friend and dapper-dresser, Paul Ellson, popped along for a few jars – jam that is, and a photo! He has an allotment and lets me scrump for fruit for jam-making so, of course, needs to regularly sample the finished product. So the yard sale was a perfect opportunity. I can confirm jams and chutneys sold well and have swelled the cat kitty.”

“The day went well and all four animal charities represented - Dogs for Good, Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (for elephant conservation), Help Bulgarian street cats and dogs, and our own CP branch, of course – sold lots of home-made and donated goods which resulted in valuable contributions to ongoing fundraising needs.”

Neighbours, fellow volunteers and supporters visited the event and found it ‘interesting and thought-provoking – getting to know more about the work the various charities do – at home and abroad’.

The ‘front yard fund-raising event’ took place at two venues on Orchard Road, Jen’s at number 90, and the drive of the house opposite – with Jen’s thanks. “We are indebted to Ben and Chris at no. 97, who have a rescue dog named Archie, for the use of their premises too. It was so good to catch up with friends old and new, and meet neighbours that we’d never come across before.”

CP coordinator Nicole came along to help and support - and thanks volunteers 'Jen, Jane, Lorraine, Kathy and Sue for all they do, the other animal charity supporters who set up shop, and the delicious cakes on sale - they were scrumptious!'
