HANDS FREE HOMING

Hands Free Homing

We are delighted to announce that we will be piloting a new adoption process called HANDS FREE HOMING, so we can continue to rehome cat/kittens in our care during COVID-19.

The Health & Safety of our volunteers and adopters is our utmost concern and this process will ensure we minimise risk to adopters and volunteers at all times.

AT EVERY STAGE OF THE PROCESS WE WILL ASK YOU IF ANYONE IN THE HOUSEHOLD IS EXPERIENCING SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19.

** If you are in rented property, we will need to see written consent from your landlord that you are allowed to have a cat or cats.

Our adoption fee is £70 which includes delivery and a cat carrier which is a condition of adoption. The fee includes vaccinations, micro-chipping, vet check, FIV/FeLV test, worm & flea treatment, neutering and 4 weeks free insurance.

We ask that you read these full guidelines:
1. ENQUIRY
If you see an advertised cat/kitten you are interested in adopting, please contact us via Facebook or our website https://www.cats.org.uk/gwent-branch

If we think you’re a match, we will call you. This gives you the opportunity to discuss the cat/kitten selected, welfare and general queries on ownership.

We will ask for “PROOF OF YOUR ADDRESS” i.e. drivers licence, council tax, bank statement, utility bill etc. If you are in rented accommodation we will also require written proof from your landlord to confirm pets are allowed.
We will only be able to proceed with your enquiry once this documentation is received.

2. VIRTUAL HOME VISIT
Once the cat/kitten is reserved for you, we’ll arrange a “Virtual” Home Visit (via Messenger, WhatsApp, etc.)

3. PAPERWORK & PAYMENT
Following a successful home visit the cat/kitten paperwork will be sent by email for you to read, sign and return. The documents you’ll receive are: cat/kitten information sheet, 2nd vaccination voucher (where applicable) adoption paperwork, including details of Petplan insurance.
Payment must be sent to the branch by bank transfer in advance of the adoption. Once we have received payment, delivery of the cat/kitten will be arranged.

4. DELIVERY
A volunteer will then call you to arrange a mutually convenient time to deliver your new cat/kitten to you. Strict health & safety guidelines will be in place at all times to ensure the safe transfer of the cat/kitten to your home. The vaccination card will be handed over at this time.

5. FOLLOW UP
A branch volunteer will be in touch with you (via ‘phone, Facebook or email) to check how your cat/kitten is settling into their new home and provide any advice you may need.

We may have a few teething problems to begin with and we thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during the first few weeks of this new process. Please bear in mind that we are a “VOLUNTEER” branch and it may take some time to reply back to everyone that contacts us.
