What we do

We are happy to provide you with information about Cats Protection and how you can help us with the work we do at the Halifax and Huddersfield branch. Our branch was set up in 2007 by a group of volunteers who wanted to do more to reduce the on-going suffering of cats in the Halifax and Huddersfield areas.

Every year our branch takes in many rescue cats and kittens. These cats need new homes for many reasons. Some have been abandoned, are strays or their owners may have has to give them up for a variety of reasons. We don't have a shelter so rely on a number of volunteer fosterers who provide a temporary home for the cats and kittens in our care. Our foster homes are ALWAYS full which gives you an indication of how important it is to continue our neutering/spaying campaign and finding the right home for all our cats. Whether a new kitten or a cat in their twilight years, it is our commitment to find the right home they all truly deserve.

Cats Protection champions neutering as the only effective way to reduce the number of unwanted cats in the UK. Neutered cats live longer, healthier lives and it is the most humane way to stop unwanted kittens. Neutering also prevents some cancers, reduces straying, fighting and spraying. We supply neutering vouchers to help those on a low income.

We offer a "home to home" service for people who wish to seek a new home for their pet and we also run a "lost and found" register for the area.

Our branch is run by a small dedicated team of volunteers, most of whom have full time jobs, who support the branch, dealing with the administration and assist in fundraising for our branch.

We need more people to help us to help more cats. If you live in our area you can help by adopting a cat or volunteering. We especially want more fosterers and fundraisers. If you would like to join our team you will have an experienced volunteer to be your "buddy" at first so you won't be thrown in at the deep end.

And of course, if you are looking at this website to offer a cat or kitten a home, we always have plenty in our care. Our fosterers are based in Halifax, Huddersfield and Brighouse and you can visit the cats and kittens once our homing officer has spoken with you and is satisfied you are a suitable candidate to adopt one of our cats or kittens.
