A very big Thank You to Mark Smitheram of Porkellis who on 31st May 2021 (and what was then the hottest day of the year) ran in the the South West Traverse - 44.83 miles in 10.32 hrs, raising what is now (July 5th) over a thousand pounds for Falmouth Helston Branch of Cats Protection - a brilliant effort.
Mark very kindly did this for us in memory of Michael, the Porkellis Village Cat who came into our care after being found injured. Sadly it transpired that he had been hit by a vehicle and despite all our efforts, his x-rays showed that nothing could be done to save him. Michael had been quite a character and will be very much missed by those in the neighbourhood who used to care for him.
We are aware of several cats being badly injured or killed by cars speeding through Porkellis, the last one being only a few days ago so could we please ask anyone who travels this route to be aware that whilst you may think the road is clear, cats can pop up very suddenly in the road and you are not going to able to brake in time if travelling at speed.
