Ronnie has a new home!

Ronnie has a new home!

Hello, I'm Jill a new volunteer to the Eskdale and District CP group and I moved to Moffat in July with my three cats (Scooter, Flicky and Tufty).

Although I was delighted to have retired and to be making the move, it was a bittersweet moment in that Reggie, Tufty’s brother was not with us. He had sadly been run down, two years ago and although he was a handful (named after Reggie Kray!) we still missed him. He was a bit of a thug, but he loved his mum.

I always felt that I was both a cat and a dog “person” and so with my daughter grown up and plenty of time felt that finally it might be the time to adopt a cat-friendly dog to join the family. I’m also hoping to become a cat fosterer, so, on my way to the dog rescue centre, I needed to stop off at the Cats Protection pens in Lockerbie and, by chance, got to meet Ronnie – a black, two-year-old boy, with a bit of a chequered history.

When he came out to greet me, I immediately fell in love with him. He had a naughty twinkle in his eyes which seemed to say, “Go on, give me a chance, take me home, I’m great fun!”. Of course, when I heard that his name was Ronnie and that he was also a bit of a loveable rogue, it seemed like Fate. I did go to see the dog, but Ronnie was the one I was thinking about when I drove home that day. I went onto the website to ask to adopt him that evening and went to pick him up three days later.

That was nearly three weeks ago, and Ronnie is already living up to his name. Within days he had manged to get inside all the drawers in the house and even tried climbing up the chimney at one point! He is like a 2-year-old kitten and so the smaller and more inaccessible the place, the more he wants to explore it.

The other three have found him to be a bit of a force of nature but seem to know that he means no real harm and just has an excess of high spirits. Ronnie was kept as an indoor cat previously but is very interested in exploring the outside. In time, I hope, Tufty, who is four, and he will become good friends and will explore together, just as she used to with Reggie, while the two older cats enjoy sleeping in a sunny spot.
