Veterinary Record - 3rd Oct 2015 - Pet Identification: call for harmonised rules across the EU Cats Protection has welcomed a campaign to harmonise rules regarding pet identification and registration across the EU, led by Eurogroup for Animals. This is part of an attempt to help tackle the illegal pet trade in Europe, by linking pets to their owner and to help make cross-border movement of animals safer.

CP’s chief executive Peter Hepburn stated that: “A much clearer, uniform approach is desperately needed. Whether a cat moves country legally or illegally, or even by accident after climbing into a vehicle, it is essential that the country of origin and the owner of the cat can be traced”.
