Welcome to Cats Protection Cambridge Branch

Cats Protection Cambridge Branch is run entirely by volunteers and is dependent on the generosity and goodwill of our supporters. We’re here to support cats and kittens in Cambridge city (CB1, CB2, CB3, CB4 and CB5) and the surrounding villages (Some of CB8, most of CB21, CB22, CB23, CB24, CB25, and SG8.)

Run by a small group of passionate, cat-loving volunteers, we’re dedicated to improving the lives of cats and kittens in our area. We work to find loving new homes for local cats in our care, offer support with neutering and microchipping, lost and found cats, and cared-for community cats, as well as general education and awareness within the Cambridge area.

Cats Protection Cambridge branch does not have a shelter. All the cats in our care are looked after by a team of dedicated fosterers in their own homes or purpose-built pens in gardens until we find new homes for them. In 2023 we homed 150 cats and kittens into loving homes.

Cambridge Cats Protection strongly encourages neutering of cats. For information about neutering in the local area, and our neutering vouchers for those on low incomes, please contact us on 01223 236188.

There are lots of ways to support the work of our branch. If you shop online, then please join easyfundraising and they'll give a donation to Cambridge Cats Protection at no extra cost to you when you make an online purchase. A donation to help the work of this branch can be made online or our Amazon wish list contains items for our foster cats that we'd be really grateful to receive.

Cat adoption in Cambridge

Could you provide a loving new home for a cat in Cambridge? Contact us by phone on 01223 528312 and please leave a message if you get the answer phone.

Cats Protection Cambridge branch volunteers will visit your home to talk you through the homing process before inviting you to meet your purrfect match of a cat in foster care. We’ll consider everything from your potential pet’s personality and how this fits with your lifestyle, to your home environment.

Our adoption fee is £75 for a cat and £95 for a kitten. Our cats are rehomed with vaccinations, microchip, neutering, initial flea and worm treatment, and 4 weeks free Petplan insurance, all of which could cost around £250 per cat. We are happy to provide follow up advice after all adoptions.

Cat flap required: all our rescue cats need to be homed where they have free access to explore a safe garden via a cat flap. Cats have a natural tendency to explore, so allowing them free access to the outside gives them mental stimulation and reduces stress. Benefits include: exercise, variety, ability to express natural behaviours and space outside the household when needed. Please also note that we do not home cats on or near busy or main roads or railway tracks.

Volunteer at Cats Protection Cambridge Branch

Without volunteers, Cats Protection Cambridge Branch simply wouldn't exist. Our amazing, friendly volunteers are a diverse group with a shared love of cats who fit volunteering around their home lives and personal commitments. We are always looking to increase our pool of volunteers, who may be able to help in some way, however small.

Do you have a few hours to spare? Would you like to make a difference? We would love to hear from you. Help is needed in the following areas:

FOSTERING

Wanted: cat lovers who have the time and patience to look after a cat or cats until they find their forever home.

  • Requirements:
  • Live fairly local to one of our preferred vets: Cambridge city or an adjacent village
  • Must have a car to take cat to vet whenever required.
  • Time and patience to provide a loving supportive environment for the foster cat, including administering medication and keeping records, cat cuddles, food, cleaning their area every day, etc.
  • For outdoor fosterers who can commit to having a pen in their garden:
    • 5 year commitment due to the cost of installing the purpose-built outdoor pen. (Approximately 4 foot wide x 12 foot long x 6'6" high)
    • Sufficient space, as well as permission (i.e. if you do not own your home) to install the pen and electricity supply in your garden
  • Indoor fosterers:
    • Must have no other pets. The cat must be able to treat your home as its own whilst in your care.
    • Ideally a spare room to provide a safe space for cat(s) to become comfortable in their temporary environment
    • Secure home so that cat cannot escape whilst in temporary care.

Please email enquiries@cambridge.cats.org.uk for more information.

We are also looking for Casual event volunteers to help at occasional fundraising or awareness-raising events in our area. Lost and found cats in Cambridge

Lost a cat? To add a cat to our register please email full details including a photo to enquiries@cambridge.cats.org.uk, or call 07889 976463.

Found a cat? Check the lost cats carousel below, and email full details including a photo to enquiries@cambridge.cats.org.uk, or call 07889 976463. Please consider whether the cat is definitely lost or stray, or whether it belongs to a neighbour. Cats are inquisitive and like to explore their neighbourhood, and it's possible that a cat that is hanging around and meowing near your door does have a home!
