Adopt a cat

All cats that come to us are assessed for their personality and sent to the Vet for a complete medical to ensure they're healthy. All cats will be micro-chipped and apart from kittens, will be neutered. Our home visitor will evaluate your needs and try to ensure that we find you

your perfect partner. After all all we wish for is that you'll be together for a very long time!

Occasionally 'indoor' cats are available but the majority of our cats will need access to a garden after having been with you for about 4-6 weeks. We'd also prefer it that you are not on or near a main road.
Please note that we are usually only able to accept or home cats in our own area (The Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted branch covers the following postcodes : HP1, HP2 HP3 and HP4.) Other Hertfordshire postcodes will be covered by a branch more local to your area and although we do work very closely with our neighbouring branches, we'd appreciate you contacting your local branch in the first instance.

In general we do not home kittens to families with young children, as kittens have needle-like teeth and claws and are liable to scratch and bite, especially when poked and prodded by little fingers! We DO however home adult cats to families with small children as adult cats will usually tolerate children quite happily.
We also do not home individual kittens to people who work full-time, as they require a lot of attention when they are tiny, and don't like to be left on their own. They could feel very insecure and frightened.
If you've never owned a cat before and are concerned about taking on a cat without any experience, we will be happy to give you as much advice and support as you need. After all, our primary aim is to match cats with people, and if you need help you'll find that we have lots of experience that we'll gladly pass on.
If you would like to give one of our cats a new home then phone us on 0345 371 1851. Please leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as we can (you’ll appreciate it is very busy and we are all volunteers!).
Cats Protection asks adopters for a fee, currently £100, when re homing a cat. If you feel able to make a donation on top of the fee that would, of course, be gratefully received. We know times are hard so thank you for your decision to re-home a CP cat!
