In selected Cats Protection centres, during the lockdown restrictions surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19), we are trialling a new hands-free homing approach for some of our cats.
This is to ensure that we can continue to help as many cats as possible at this time by matching them with their perfect family and freeing up more space in our centres. Our friendly staff at the Haslemere Homing Centre will help you choose a cat that is best suited to you, your lifestyle and your home. When you give a home to a cat or kitten from us, you can be assured that it has been vet checked, neutered (if it is old enough), vaccinated, microchipped, and treated for fleas and worms.
You can also buy everything you need for your cat, such as food, litter, bowls and toys from us too. All profits we make go back to helping more cats in need of a loving new home.
A guide to our new hands-free homing process
We’re keen to help as many cats as possible, both during the current crisis and beyond. Offering our cats a home will help to free up more space in our centres to take in emergency cases.
We have put in extensive procedures to make sure that our homing process is in line with current government guidance, without putting adoptees or our employees at risk. While we can’t guarantee that you’ll be able to adopt a cat straight away, you’ll begin the adoption process with us.
Here is our guide to adopting a cat using hands-free homing
- Check you are within a reasonable distance of your chosen centre. You can find your nearest centre by typing in your postcode at www.cats.org.uk/find-us
- Enquire. If you’ve found a cat on our website that you’re interested in homing, send an enquiry through using our form
- Reserve your cat. If you’re found to be a match for your chosen cat, you’ll be contacted by our team via phone or email. You may be asked for proof of your address and the consent of your landlord (if you live in a rented property)
- Adopt. Once you have reserved your cat, you’ll be sent paperwork to sign and you’ll make a further telephone appointment with our team. In this call, you’ll have a chance to discuss everything you need to know about your cat. You’ll then pay an adoption fee of £100, usually by card payment over the phone
- Bringing your cat home. Once this is finalised, we’ll arrange a Covid safe collection
- Be supported. You’ll receive a follow-up call or email around three, seven and 14 days after the adoption to check that your new arrival is settled in. You can also find help and advice on the Cats Protection website at www.cats.org.uk/advice
Kittens will not be advertised until ready for adoption, usually between 8-10 weeks old, we do not take adopters details until that stage, there is no kitten waiting list system in operation.
All cats/kittens are individuals and have different needs so please be aware not all of the cats are suitable for all homes. We are very honest about your chosen cats medical history and temperament but we cannot predict if a cats behaviour will change once in a home environment.
Please also consider giving an older cat a home. Many cats can live for many happy years and get to over 20 years old! We always have over-looked middle aged cats that would love a forever home and really deserve their second chance of a loving home.
