Cat of the Month, Dec 2016: Bailey
***UPDATE: BAILEY HAS FOUND A LOVING FOREVER HOME!***

Our Cat of the Month for December, who is looking for a home, is Bailey.

The very beautiful Bailey has been waiting patiently in our care for a home for almost 7 months.  That's right - almost 7 months!!  It is about time he found someone special to give him the loving home he deserves.  He needs to be homed indoors only, so it's no problem if you live in a flat or by a road.

Bailey is around 6-7 years old. He is a gentle giant: very handsome and very affectionate once he gets to know you.  Look at that face, and the way his ear flops...adorable!

There is one more thing that you need to know about Bailey...

Bailey has FIV.

Please read on - don't turn away!

Many people do not understand what FIV is, and the misunderstanding of FIV can cause people to overlook FIV cats like Bailey.  FIV is to be understood and carefully managed, not feared.

So what is FIV?

FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, and is a virus that affects a cat's immune system slowly over a matter of years. FIV is a virus specific to cats and only cats - so it absolutely CANNOT be passed onto humans or any other species.  Most FIV cats do not display any symptoms at all, and live long, healthy lives.

However, as they carry the virus, there is a small chance they can pass on the virus to other cats that they come into direct contact with, and they can pick up infections more easily than other cats.  That is why the best home for an FIV cat is with no other cats (unless they also have FIV) and where it can live mainly or completely indoors, but maybe has access to an outside exercise pen.

If you are prepared to make your home an interesting living environment for your feline companion, an FIV cat like Bailey could be for you.
