Rehoming Success Story: Artie - July 22

Nicky, now Artie, was in the care of North Herts Cats protection in 2022 and we homed him to his forever loving home. His Adopter has been in touch to let us know how he's getting on:

"My daughter was recovering from an injury and doing a phased return to school when she suggested we get a cat. With my husband mostly working from home, we were all around the house more and so now seemed like a good time. We scoured local rescue websites and my daughter set her heart on a stray called Nicky. Nicky was found near a hairdressers and named after the stylist, Nicky Clarke. My daughter renamed him Artemis (goddess of hunting). Artie or Artz as we call him, didn’t enjoy the car journey from the shelter to our home. But as soon as we got in the house, he explored downstairs and found a safe space under the dining table. He gathered the toys we had bought for him and took them there. We introduced him to upstairs and he slept stretched out on his back showing his tummy and blocking a bedroom doorway. Often he’ll sleep with a limb in the air. He sleeps on top of our duvets, close to us, but rarely on our laps. He’s a people’s cat though. He’ll nap next to my husband when he’s working at the computer despite there being lots of other places he could nap elsewhere in the house instead.
Before he was let out he loved sitting on the windowsills looking at birds. Now he is an “out, out” cat, always going out after eating and treating our house like a hotel. He likes to hang out on top of some nearby garages and chase squirrels. He caught a vole and tried to take it into my neighbour’s house but then left it on our front lawn. He’s a quiet cat and we don’t often hear him meow, however, he’s asserting himself and claiming territory as his own and hisses at a neighbour’s cat. My daughter takes him for walks along the riverbank behind our house by dangling a tall grass which he follows eagerly. He finishes all his meals and has lifted up a mesh food cover to help himself to our leftover roast duck too. We can’t imagine our home without him."

We're delighted to hear that he's doing so well, if you've adopted a cat from North Herts Cats Protection and would like to send an update please contact us, we'd love to hear from you.
