Adopt a cat

Welcome to the Blandford & Sturminster Newton Branch Adopt a Cat pages!

Here is our guide to adopting a cat trying to be as hands-free as possible still:

  • Check you are within a reasonable distance of your chosen branch. Please note that priority will be given to those who live within 20 miles radius of Blandford Forum. You can find your nearest branch by typing in your postcode at
  • Enquire. If you’ve found a cat on our website that you’re interested in homing, send an enquiry through using our contact form or call our helpline 01258 858644
  • Reserve your cat. If you’re found to be a match for your chosen cat, you’ll be contacted via phone or email. You may be asked for proof of your address and the consent of your landlord (if you live in a rented property). In this call, you’ll have a chance to discuss everything you need to know about your cat and we will have a chat with you to make sure you have thought about everything and have everything in place to take the cat on.
  • Adopt. Once you have reserved your cat, you’ll be sent paperwork to sign. You’ll then pay an adoption fee of £65 usually by bank transfer, if you would like to add a donation this would be welcome but not obligatory.
  • Visit. Most of our fosterers are now happy for you to visit the cats in our care if the paperwork has been completed and the fee paid and you have everything ready you would be able to take it home at that time, if you need time to think about it that would be no problem. (this is at the discretion of each fosterer and could change at any time due to further restrictions)
  • Bringing your cat home. You are now allowed to pick up your chosen cat. If you need us to we can still arrange for a driver to bring your cat safely to your home, so long as paperwork and payment has been arranged.Be supported. You’ll receive a follow-up call or email around three, seven and 21 days after the adoption to check that your new arrival is settled in. You can also find help and advice on the Cats Protection website at
