What we do

From humble beginnings in 1927, Cats Protection has grown to become the UK's leading feline welfare charity. We now help around 218,000 cats and kittens every year through our network of over 250 volunteer-run branches, 29 adoption centres and two homing centres.

The Brighton & District branch of Cats Protection is run entirely by cat-loving volunteers carrying out their roles from their own homes. The types of volunteering roles being carried out varies: from looking after the welfare of cats, to organising local events, to keeping people updated via Facebook and Twitter.

The branch covers the postcodes BN1, BN2, BN3, BN41 and BN42. You can see a map of our coverage, but if you're unsure about whether you fall into our coverage area please drop a line.

Rehoming Cats

All relinquished cats go into a comforable, heated outdoor admissions pen for health checks, vaccinations and microchipping before being transferred to an indoor fosterer whist we find them a permanent home. As we currently only have one admissions pen we do tend to have a waiting list for admissions.

If you need to rehome your cat please email admissions@brighton.cats.org.uk. If you do not have access to email please telephone 01273 610306 to leave a message.

Adopting Cats

We don't have a centre where all our cats are kept, instead they are looked after by volunteer fosterers in purpose built luxury pens in their gardens, or in their homes kept entirely separate from their own pets.

Before homing, all our cats will have been health checked, vaccinated, neutered and micro chipped. We do charge an adoption fee to help with some of the cost incurred. All cats come with 4 weeks free insurance through Petplan. The cats in our care that are ready for adoption are posted on our website in the "adopt a cat" page. A home visit will be required before prospective adopters meet the cats. If you are interested in adopting any of the cats in our care please use the online form within the cats profile or email adoptions@brighton.cats.org.uk.  If you do not have access to email please telephone 01273 610306 and leave a message.

We champion the neutering of cats. In this respect, for cat owners on low incomes we are prepared to help with the cost. Please email neutering@brighton.cats.org.uk to request a neutering voucher.

Lost and Found Cats

We also operate a lost and found reporting service and use our social media to advertise any lost and found cats. Contact email is lostandfound@brighton.cats.org.uk with details of any lost or found cats.

We receive no grants, all our income is generated by the branch either from public donations or from the fundraising we do. If you wish to support us please see our "support us page" on the website.

Our charity shops

We have two shops in Brighton & Hove, one in Blatchington Road, Hove and one in Beaconsfield Road, Brighton. We regularly receive donations of quality goods, so that we always have a wide and interesting selection at attractive prices as well as having Cats Protection new goods. We also have cat food bins for your donations of cat food, as well as a variety of CP leaflets for you to take, dealing with all manner of subjects in relation to our feline friends.
