What can you make?

Designed exclusively for Cats Protection, the embroidery kit comes in two traditional Christmas colour options and allows you to make your stocking, cat-themed of course!

The stocking is perfect for any cat lover or for your own cat, use it to store cat nip, treats and toys and make sure the whole family is ready for Santa's arrival.

Suitable for complete beginners and sewing pros ages 12 plus looking to try a cosy festive project. And the best bit? You'll be helping cats just by taking part.

What's in your embroidery kit?

Your kit includes all the tools and materials you need to make your festive stocking. Your finished stocking will measure H23cm x W13cm (approx).

Inside your kit, you'll find:

transfer paper with printed patterns

stocking template (A4 paper)

stocking cuff and ear template (A4 paper)

letter template guide

red or green cotton fabric

thread: 9m of white thread; 3m of green; 3m of red, all DMC

thread: 3m of silver; and 3m of gold (Au ver a Soie)

thread organiser

embroidery needle

white felt

pins

*please note the materials in your kit are flammable and should be kept away from sources of heat and naked flames

About the craftalong

The live craftalong with our friends and embroidery experts Paraffle Embroidery will take place on Saturday 5 December at 10am in the Craft for Cats Facebook group.

Can't make it? No problem! The tutorial will be recorded and available to watch back in your own time, or alternatively, you can use the instructions in the kit to craft at your own pace.

The cost to take part includes your embroidery kit, access to the Craft for Cats Facebook group, support from our Events team and Paraffle Embroidery. You'll also be supporting our work to make a better life for cats.

What is embroidery?

The most basic description of embroidery is the art of using a needle and thread to decorate fabric.

We've been embroidering since at least the Ancient Egyptian times - something that was presumed based on paintings inside pyramids and tombs, then proved true when an intact embroidered floral collar was found in Tutankhamun's tomb!

Embroidery can help us engage in mindfulness, keeping us in the present moment, silencing the parts of the brain implicated in generating negative emotions.

Completed embroidery projects can generate feelings of accomplishment, helping build self-confidence.

Welcome back Paraffle Embroidery

Back for the fourth time, we welcome embroidery experts Paraffle Embroidery. If you’ve participated in Craft for Cats before you may remember our previous embroidery kits.

Sammy is the founder of Paraffle. She designs and makes embroidery kits, cross stitch kits, and other crafting accessories from her studio in Edinburgh.

You’ll regularly find Sammy at her studio in East Edinburgh, the Tron Kirk Market, and - over the festive period - at Edinburgh’s Christmas market. When she’s not working, she’ll be going for walks around South Queensferry, or stitching on the sofa (it doesn’t count as work if you love it!).
