Adopt a cat
Could you provide a cat or kitten in Dereham Adoption Centre their new forever home?
We’re passionate about finding loving, lasting homes for the cats in our care. During the process of adopting a cat from Dereham Adoption Centre, we’ll consider everything from your potential pet’s personality and how this fits with your lifestyle, to your home environment – creating the perfect match for both cat and owner and the start of a wonderful feline friendship.
Please note: to meet any of the cats at Dereham Adoption Centre, you must have a pre-booked appointment with us.
During lockdown, we introduced hands-free homing, which has been successful in finding many of our cats and kittens brilliant new owners. We’re continuing to rehome our cats via our website, however are now also offering visits at Dereham Adoption Centre by appointment, so you have the opportunity to meet the cat you have been matched with before adoption is complete. If you are interested in any of the cats available for adoption from Dereham Adoption Centre, please enquire via their listing below. You can find out more about rehoming and why to adopt from Cats Protection here.
If you are interested in offering a cat a permanent home and like the look of one of our cats, send us an enquiry through the website by clicking the 'contact us about this cat' button on the cats profile page and we will be in touch. You can view the cats we have available for adoption below..... https://www.cats.org.uk/dereham/adopt-a-cat. We have a range of cats and kittens in our care with differing needs, our staff will be happy to tell you all about the cats, so that the one you choose will be right for you and your home. Please note if you are applying for a pair of cats, please put an enquiry form through for both cats so we are aware you would be willing to adopt both.
*Please be aware we usually get multiple applications for our wonderful cats, when we find a potential match from the enquiries made that person may want to view the cat in the next few days before they confirm the adoption. Therefore it may take a few days to get back to the other applicants whilst this process takes place. Rest assured we will always let enquirers know the outcome asap via email.*
Once we have received your enquiry form, if we think you’re a match, we’ll give you a call or email you to discuss the cat. At this stage we will ask for proof of your address and landlord consent (if applicable). Once this has been received we can reserve the cat for you and we’ll arrange for an Adoption appointment call where you’ll be provided with full information about the cat.
*If you rent your property we will need to see written consent from your Landlord to have a cat or if you already have a cat or are taking a pair your permission will need to state permission for the number of cats you intend to keep. It would be advisable to have this ready and in place before you apply for one of our cats, as applying after reservation can lead to cats staying in our care longer that necessary which can affect their wellbeing*
Optional viewing of your Reserved cat by appointment only
Once you have been matched with a cat via our website there will be the option to meet your reserved cat before the day of adoption by pre-arranged appointment. We have found during lockdown the cats welfare has benefitted by a quieter centre and this has reduced our cats stress levels, so we hope to continue this going forward only offering viewing appointments to meet your reserved cat.
Once the reservation has been placed, we’ll make an appointment with you to complete the adoption and sign the adoption forms and collect your cat.
The paperwork consists of a Medical Summary, Adoption Form, and PetPlan Terms for your free one month of insurance cover. During your Adoption appointment we will talk through this paperwork and discuss settling your new friend into their home. The adoption fee is £75 for an adult cat or £95 for a kitten. There will also be options to purchase supplies, join our membership scheme and make a donation.
We will arrange times to catch up with you to see how your cat is getting on in their new home and provide any advice you may need. This starts from the day of adoption and we will check in with you 7 and 21 days from their arrival. At the end of the 21 days we will no longer contact you for updates, but our help doesn’t end there. We’re only ever a phone call away, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch for any advice you might need! You may also like to consider signing up to our Membership scheme which gives you access to the VetfoneTM line, and we may ask if you would be willing to participate in homing success stories articles.
