Adopt a cat
Please think very carefully before deciding to give a home to a cat or kitten as owning a pet is a long-term commitment.
Whilst we all adore the sight of a cute little ball of fur, kittens require lots of attention and an inquisitive kitten is likely to get into mischief if he/she get bored whilst you are out - you may return home to find that he/she has caused damage to your furniture or has been climbing your curtains in your absence!
On the other hand, older cats can be quieter and generally more sensible than kittens or young cats. They tend to be used to household life, know the ground rules of living with people and are more content to spend their time watching the world go by. With adult and older cats the character of the cat tends to be more evident allowing you to select a cat that suits your lifestyle. Many will be happy wandering around the garden and are less inclined to roam around the neighbourhood for long periods of time.
All our cats/kittens available for re-homing are:
•Neutered (applies also to kittens over 5/6 months), •Fully health-checked, •Micro-chipped, •Vaccinated, •Insured (free) for four weeks with Pet Plan, •Fully flea and worm treated and come with their own cat carrier.
The expense of the above often amounts to approximately £200 per cat plus the cost of day-to-day expenses such as food and litter. Therefore we ask for an adoption fee of £80 for a single cat and £140 for a pair to help cover these costs.
Due to the Covid-19 we are piloting a new HANDS-FREE HOMING approach for our cats,
If you are interested in offering a cat a permanent home and like the look of one of our cats, send us an enquiry through the website. At this stage we will ask for “PROOF OF YOUR ADDRESS” i.e drivers licence, council tax, bank statement, utility bill etc and if you are in leased/ rented accommodation we also require written proof from your landlord which confirms that pets are allowed. We will only be able to proceed with your enquiry once this documentation is received.
If we think you’re a match, we’ll give you a call to discuss the cat and reserve if this cat is suited to you. If this cat is already reserved we have a range of cats in our care and our Homing Officer will be happy to tell you about other suitable cats that may be right for you and your home.
VIRTUAL HOME VISIT
Once reserved we will arrange for a “Virtual” Home Visit by Facetime, WhatsApp or Skype. It is also an excellent opportunity for potential adopters to discuss the cat selected, cat welfare and general queries on cat ownership.
PAPERWORK & PAYMENT
Following a successful home visit the cat(s) paperwork will be sent by email for you to look over, agree and return. You will receive the cat(s) medical health summary, the adoption paperwork, details of Petplan insurance. Payment is sent to the branch by bank transfer in advance of the adoption. Once received the delivery can be organised.
Once payment and paperwork have been received, we’ll arrange a mutually convenient time for a driver to bring your new cat to your home. Strict health & safety guidelines are in place at all times to ensure the safe transfer of the cat to your home.
The cats fosterer will arrange times to catch up with you to see how your cat is getting on in their new home and provide any advice you may need. This starts from the day the cat is delivered and we will check in with you at 3, 7 and 21 days from their arrival. At the end of the 21 days we will no longer contact you for updates, but our help doesn’t end there. We’re only ever a phone call away, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch for any advice you might need!
AT EVERY STAGE OF THE PROCESS WE WILL ASK YOU IF ANYONE IN THE HOUSEHOLD IS EXPERIENCING SYMPTOMS OF COVID-19.
Please bear in mind we are a “volunteer” branch and many of our volunteers work full-time and it may take time for us to get back to you.
We often have other cats available for homing that are not on the WEB site yet so please email us at email@example.com or call 0345 371 2722
