Lost and Found

Cats Protection has teamed up with Animal Search UK to provide the UK's most advanced Lost and Found database.

Animal Search UK is the leading search service for missing pets in Britain. They specialise in helping to reunite owners with lost or stolen pets.

Their website is free to use, providing local and national coverage and also offers free help and advice for those who have either lost or found a pet.

If You Have Lost Your Cat

It is always very difficult for an owner when their cat goes missing and it is important to never give up hope.

The first thing to do is thoroughly search your house and garden, looking in warm spots (under beds, in cupboards and behind wardrobes).

When searching, always call out your cats name and use strong food smells to lure them out of hiding.

Remember to always ask neighbours to check their sheds, garages and outbuildings for signs of your cat.

If your search proves fruitless, start by telephoning your local vetenary surgeries (an injured cat may have been handed in), next, contact your local animal rescue organisations and the local council.

If your cat has been microchipped, this will increase the possibility of you and your pet being reunited, as vets will be able to scan the microchip.

You could also consider placing an advert in your local paper(s) and putting up posters offering a reward (this could encourage more response from your local community).

Don't give up, cats have been known to reappear many months after disapearing.

If You Have Found A Stray Cat

If you have found a cat, please be aware that they are usually someones pet, just out exploring their surroundings, cats can travel well over a mile a day.

If you find a cat, speak to your neighbours asking them if it belongs to them or someone they know.

If you have no success in finding the cats owner, if possible, take the cat to your local vet, who will check for a microchip.

There is no charge for this service

If no microchip is found, then please produce 'Cat Found' posters with a decent photograph and put them through letterboxes in your neighbourhood, including houses that have gardens that back on to your own garden and the surrounding roads.

Contact your local veterinary surgeries and ask them to place one of your posters in their waiting areas.

You can place a paper collar on the cat, containing a message and your telephone number, asking the owner to contact you.
