Adopting a cat from us
All our cats are advertised with pictures, videos and a description to allow you to get an idea of their personality. You can adopt with confidence knowing that our usual policy of openness and honesty still stands - we will ensure you are aware of any medical or behavioural concerns when you contact us about a cat, and we carefully assess each and every match before deciding whether the home is suitable.
A fully hands-free adoption process is available.
Enquire
If you are interested in offering a cat a permanent home and like the look of one of our cats, send us an enquiry form through the website. You can see the cats we have available on the Adopt a Cat page, or alternatively get in contact to arrange a general viewing appointment. At a general viewing our team will show you up to 3 cats that we think are well suited to your home and lifestyle, and if all goes well you'll have the opportunity to reserve your favourite.
If you live in rented accommodation, we will ask you to provide written consent from your landlord before we can reserve a cat for you. Please ensure you have this ready before enquiring to prevent disappointment. The reason for this is that a lot of our cats come into care due to issues with landlord consent, and so we want to be confident that your landlord can't change their mind once they've agreed. If it's already written into your tenancy agreement or you live in a council property with a blanket consent agreement, please let us know.
We have a range of cats (and sometimes kittens) in our care with differing needs, our team will be happy to tell you all about the cats, so that the one you choose will be right for you and your home.
Reserve
If we think you are a match, we will give you a call or email you to discuss the cat. At this stage we will ask for proof of your address and landlord consent (if applicable). Once this has been received we can reserve the cat for you and we will arrange for an Adoption appointment and collection where you will be provided with full information about the cat. Our reservations are time limited so please be ready to adopt before enquiring. Currently our homing process is taking a maximum of 2 days (excluding Tuesdays and Thursdays when we are closed). Please note that not all applications to adopt cats are successful, but if the cat you are interested in has already been reserved or we feel that one of our other cats would be better suited to your home or lifestyle then our friendly team will contact you to recommend some alternatives.
Adopt
Once the reservation has been placed, we will send you the cat's paperwork by email for you to review and sign. We will be able to finalise the Adoption once this paperwork is received.
The paperwork consists of a medical summary, adoption form and PetPlan terms for your free one month of insurance cover. During your adoption appointment we will talk through this paperwork and discuss settling your new friend into their home. There is a £85 adoption fee per cat over 6 months (£105 if under 6 months) which will be taken by card at your appointment. There will also be options to purchase supplies, join our membership scheme and make a donation. We are unable to take any other method of payment at this time. Please note that you will need to collect the cat from us within 2 days of reservation.
If you reserved your cat without meeting them, you'll have the option to make a "view/collect" appointment where you can spend some time with your new best friend and then take them home with you.
Support
We will arrange times to catch up with you to see how your cat is getting on in their new home and provide any advice you may need. This starts from the day the cat is collected and we will check in with you at day 3 and day 14 from their arrival. After the last the adoption call we will no longer contact you for updates, but our help doesn't end there. We're only ever a phone call away, so please don't hesitate to get in touch for any advice you might need! You may also like to consider signing up to our membership scheme which gives you access to the VetfoneTM line, and we may ask if you would be willing to participate in homing success story articles.
If you have any questions about how to adopt from us that haven’t been answered here, please feel free to get in touch.
